About Cordaid

Cordaid is an internationally operating emergency relief and development organisation, founded in 2000 when several Dutch aid organisations joined forces (People in Need, Memisa, ICCO). For over a century, Cordaid has been helping people in the most difficult areas and circumstances to create opportunities for those who need it most. Where disasters strike, Cordaid provides life-saving humanitarian assistance. For more long-term impact, Cordaid combines emergency aid with efforts to improve healthcare systems, food security, economic opportunities, peace building and disaster resilience. Cooperation with the local population is central to this. After all, they know best what is needed and what works.

Cordaid is rooted in Christian social traditions and is a founding member of Caritas Internationalis, the global network of Catholic relief organisations, and CIDSE, an umbrella organisation for Catholic development agencies from Europe and North America. Besides, Cordaid is a member of the ACT Alliance, a global faith-based coalition organised in national and regional forums operating in more than 120 countries. The values of human dignity, justice, compassion, and care for the planet guide Cordaid’s work. It inspires them to reach out to the poor and the excluded, regardless of race and religion.
