Consultation on the NL Energy Compact Initiative

Consultation on the NL Energy Compact Initiative 1
CARE Netherlands and Oxfam Novib, as (potential) signatories of the NL Energy Compact, together with KUNO are organizing this consultation with the Dutch humanitarian sector to explore how our sector could perhaps contribute to the Energy Compact and accelerate the SDGs and Paris Climate Goals.

The NL Energy Compact is a multi-stakeholder initiative of the Dutch private sector, civil society, financial sector, academia, youth and the Government of the Netherlands. The members of this initiative voluntarily commit themselves to the goal of ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy. This to support both the SDGs (SDG 7) and the Paris Climate Goals.

In September there will be a High-Level Dialogue on Energy at the UN (for the first time in 40 years), where the Dutch Government is serving as a global thematic champion on the themes Energy Access and Finance & Investment. In this regard the Dutch Government will seek to “support low and middle-income countries in pursuing just and inclusive energy transitions to reach the SDG7 goals by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.”

The Energy Compact has 5 themes, including theme a theme on ensuring ‘adequate and reliable access to basic energy services is critical for people in displacement situations’.
