I am a PhD candidate and lecturer in media studies and humanitarian communication at Utrecht University and one of the directors at the Expertise Centre for Humanitarian Communication. My work mainly aims to critically interrogate the discourses of disaster and relief, international development and issues regarding the representation of conflict, migration and human rights.

My teaching in Media Studies (now at Utrecht University, prior also at the University of Amsterdam and the London School of Economics) is mainly focussed on courses related to media industry and production studies, postcolonial studies and cultural analysis.
