Jakana, Nigeria, 2017. A group of women collecting water at a distribution point. Jakana is a community that suffered the attacks of Boko Haram, but today it is the refuge of thousands of displaced people that have left their towns.
Both the Emergency Gap and Principled Humanitarian Assistance are pressing issues in the humanitarian sector, posing dilemmas for the humanitarian community in, for example, aid delivery and how to gain access to difficult regions. During this informal meeting on the ‘Emergency Gap in Armed Conflict’, Ed Schenkenberg and Velina Stoianova held presentations on research conducted by HERE and MSF OCBA/MSF Spain. KUNO coordinated the meeting, which took place at the office of Oxfam Novib in The Hague. After both presentations, an open discussion was held with all attendees.
For this meeting, KUNO brought together the knowledge of two organizations that are not based in the Netherlands. Together with the active participation of academics, practitioners and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it made for a valuable exchange of knowledge and experiences on this pressing topic.
